I practice in family law. Family law covers the wide range of problems which can arise between both married and unmarried couples relating to their relationship, their property and their children. Since the Civil Partnerships Act 2004 passed into law in November 2004, the term "family law" applies equally to same sex couples, who have registered a Civil Partnership. The term family law therefore, covers a very wide range of very different issues.
I have particular expertise in negotiating financial settlements for my clients, in the course of divorce proceedings. This is an area of family law which can require a tenacious and proactive approach and it always requires meticulous attention to detail. These are skills for which I am well known locally, and further afield.
Failing to 'grasp the nettle' or to address difficult and complex financial issues promptly, can lead to lengthy and costly delays. I always adopt a proactive rather than a reactive approach to family law in each of its very different facets. By doing so I strive to ensure that what is often a very difficult situation for my clients, is not made more difficult by reason of inaction or lack of foresight.
I actively encourage clients to resolve disputes regarding their children in a non-confrontational manner.
I was educated in the United States, Switzerland and England. I hold an honours degree in law. I have practiced as a solicitor in Bury St Edmunds since I was admitted in 1984. I have strong local connections and wealth of local knowledge.
When I joined Gross & Co in August 2001, I became the first woman partner since the firm was established in 1848.
In my spare time, I enjoy many sports: to name but a few - training with weights, tennis, swimming, cycling, scuba-diving, cross country skiing and squash. I enjoy walking, I am a member of the National Trust, and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. I also enjoy listening to music, both classical and contemporary.
